Four Years of War

As we mark four years since the war in Ukraine began, we pause to reflect on the resilience, courage, and humanity that have defined this time. What began as an urgent response to unfolding tragedy has become a sustained commitment, a promise that we would stand alongside the people of Ukraine for as long as we are needed. Four years on, that promise remains unshaken.

Since those first days, articulated lorries filled with medical supplies and essential aid have made their long journeys eastward, carrying not only practical support but also a message: you are not forgotten. Alongside this, tens of thousands of pounds have been sent each month to help internal refugees, displaced families, and those facing poverty and uncertainty. Every box packed, every mile travelled, every pound given represents compassion in action.

None of this would be possible without the extraordinary generosity of our supporters here at home. To everyone who has donated, fundraised, given time, offered skills, or simply encouraged us along the way, we thank you. Your kindness has turned concern into practical help and hope.

We are equally grateful to our dedicated volunteers who faithfully sort, pack, organise, and load, often behind the scenes and without recognition. Your steady commitment, week after week, is the quiet engine that keeps this work moving forward.

Above all, we hold in deep admiration the people of Ukraine; those who continue to defend their homeland, and those who remain to care for families, neighbours, and communities under the most challenging circumstances. Their courage in the face of hardship, their determination to protect their freedom, and their refusal to lose hope inspire us daily.

As we remember these four years of suffering and strength, we recommit ourselves to standing in solidarity. Together, through compassion and perseverance, we will continue to bring practical help, and a reminder that even in the darkest times, humanity endures.

We are truly privileged to be able to support so many Summer Camps in both Moldova and Ukraine.

In Ukraine, these camps open their doors not only to children, but also to military families — including the wives and mothers of those serving. For many, the war has touched their lives in deeply personal ways. Most children have relatives who are fighting, and many have endured heart-breaking losses.

Yet within the camp, a different world comes to life — one filled with laughter, games, and moments of joy. Here, children can play freely, discover new friends, and remember what it feels like to be carefree. They share their stories with one another, offering comfort and understanding that only those with similar experiences can give.

For widows and the wives of the missing, the simple act of painting, drawing, or sharing memories can be deeply restorative.

Speaking about their loved ones, honouring their bravery, and finding support in one another turns grief into connection. For children, telling the stories of their fathers’ heroism becomes a source of pride and strength.

These camps do more than give people time to cry — they give them time to heal, to smile, and to believe in brighter days ahead.

Moldova has not slipped from our hearts or our prayers. Life there is still painfully hard, especially in the villages, where jobs are rare and wages, when they exist, are seldom enough to survive. For many children, especially in these villages, each day feels heavy and joyless, with little chance to break free from the cycle of hardship.

Since early June, schools have closed for the long summer break, but instead of carefree days, many children are out in the fields, working beside their parents to grow the food their families depend on for winter. Others must try to earn a little money so that, when September comes, they can afford the books and clothes they need to continue their education. Childhood, for them, is often a season of toil.

This is why the Summer Camps are such a precious gift. For a short while, they allow children to simply be children. They open a window of happiness in the midst of difficulty. For a few precious days, these children are free to run and laugh, to play games, to sing and shout with joy. Most importantly, they are reminded that they are seen, they are loved, and their childhood matters.

The Things We Need

In addition to financial support we take articulated trucks to Ukraine and Moldova.

Those we seek to help are lovely people in a very difficult situation. We always try to find ways to help whilst retaining their dignity. It is not nice to be poor on in need. We respect and admire the way they cope with their situation.

The only things we take are really good quality used clothing, bedding etc. They deserve the best we can give.

In addition we take some medical equipment and supplies, especially needed are aid for the disabled.

At the moment we are looking for bicycles, as many as we can get to take to Ukraine, especially for the Kherson region.

If you have a bicycle you no longer use of need and are willing to give it to us to take to Ukraine we would be very grateful.
